Buying Guide Disappointment

I had not purchased the buying guide for several years. In the past, it had been a comprehensive manual that I paid about $12.00 for, and you could look up just about any item you could think of, AND purchase it at the local bookstore. Bookstores don't carry it anymore; the only place I could find it was on-line. When I received it in the mail, the 2013 annual was 1/4 the size in thickness, and only 30 categories! I had several items I wanted to check on, and they were not even in the book. At $22.95, this annual is a complete rip-off! Gee, thanks Consumer Reports! Not buying your annual ever again.

Not quite as hearty a volume as before?

I look forward to this work each year--Consumer Reports' analysis of quite a few products, a compilation of reviews from their signature magazine.I could be wrong, though, but this year's volume seems a bit less robust than usual.
The work begins with Blu-ray players and ends with washers--and then autos. The auto section is always a priority. Some differences: Once upon a time there was a year-by year analysis of used cars with a fair amount of detail. This year? Not so much (pages 180-187). Very useful are the judgments on each automobile brand--with some detailed judgments. Very nice!
Other helpful examinations: laptops, e-book readers (I am interested in what product that I might purchase), gas grills, and so on.
Overall, a good annual publication--although it appears to be less robust than previously.

Not Very Useful

The 2013 version is about half the size they usually are. It was not very useful to me in my search for a new TV. It also did not provide any help in my search for a system of personal safety from having an accident.
