In short, marine bioacoustics is and will continue to be a diverse discipline involving investigators from a variety of backgrounds, with very different knowledge and skill sets. The inherent inter-disciplinary nature of marine bioacoustics presents a large challenge in writing a single text that would be meaningful to various investigators and students interested in this field. It covers important subjects associated with marine bioacoustics such as the measurement and generation of underwater sounds, the propagation of acoustic signals in the marine environment and in small tanks, signal processing techniques, and advanced devices used in the field. Also covered are topics relating to marine animals, such as methods to record and acquire acoustic signals from animals, their auditory systems and vocalizations, psychological and physiological testing procedures, and echolocation in marine mammals.

The Best on the subeject!

Not only is this up to date by two of the best and most experienced (in the real world, not just in theoretical modelling, etc.), it is also readable & understandable for those interested in the subject. Yes, some of the technical/mathematical sections are 'intense' but when you get into things like the Fourier analysis they are bound to be- but even then they do an superb job here of explaining them, and after all this is a Springer edition so that is to be expected. But even then Dr. Au & Dr. Hastings do a superb job of explaining the technical aspects in an understandable fashion, and in one area they excel, when they introduce a formula each 'term' is defined right there & then! That ALL scientific papers and authors were required to do this!! Absolutely a required book to have On Your Desk and not on a shelf for anyone interested in the subject. Kudos!!!! To Springer & Dr.s Au & Hastings!

Battles sway on Loric’s actions. He is a hero torn between his duty and his love for Avalana.

Meanwhile, King Hadregeon of Landolstadt forsakes his sworn truce with Garrick to make war upon him. Durbansdan is torn apart by Hadregeon and Turtioc. Between them, those two rivals to Garrick’s throne scatter the Army of Durbansdan, leave Garrick despondent for a son missing, and likely dead, and capture Moonriver Castle, along with Princess Avalana. In addition, Loric and a handful of companions--one, the unlikely Barag--are driven into the Enchanted River and Lost Hills, away from Lord Garrick’s host.

Loric survives the dragon water from the river, which gives him dragon eyes as part of its curse upon him. However, he and his companions are cornered between an enemy army, a lost province and former seat of the kingdom that is overrun by dragons, and Dimwood Forest. Loric chooses the haunted forest and finds secrets to help him continue his father’s quest, which could decide the Succession of Beledon. He must first recover the Dragon’s Eye, which lay hidden and guarded at a place marked on his father’s map, as The Blood of Logant.

The Blood of Logant has grown over the years, and this author has grown with it. I am thankful that this novel never went to print in its primitive forms. I have learned many things from my rejections, and I have used those insights to revise, enhance and improve everything in this book. I had to walk away from it in frustration (at least a hundred times), but kept coming back to it, because I have always believed in it. It has survived a split into two books (part two--The Fire of Kings, coming soon), the additions of new novels behind its second part and the discovery that I had written all of it poorly--in the middle of the sixth book. That block was significant. I could not finish the story, and I could not figure out why I could not finish it. That led me to ask countless questions and figure out or wait on answers to those questions. It was not easy to work out where things went wrong or why, and it was challenging to correct my errors without tearing down the entire framework upon which the story was built. I adjusted the framework and gutted the content, but the story remains intact, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I adjusted plot lines, changed characters and re-shuffled arrangement. Surprisingly, little things made the biggest impacts in the long run of the story. The result is The Blood of Logant, the e-pub novel, fourteen years in the making and re-making. Thank you. About the Author
David S. Wells was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 25th, 1973. He first took to fantasy literature as a boy of eight. He made his first attempt to write fiction two years later. However, it was not until 1997 that he first authored The Blood of Logant a story he considered worthy publication, which he has since published in the Kindle Store. The Dragon Eyes Chronicles now includes The Fire of Kings and The Sons of Donigan, with A Wayward Light in the revision and editing processes.

Wells has written several unpublished manuscripts apart from his story about the heroic warrior, Loric of Taeglin, including Infinity's Star. The Last King of the Rock(unpublished), a novel about three young people and a murderer battling the forces of evil to restore balance between swords and sorcery, humans and the elements of nature, inspired Wells to create his website, davidswells.com, to display his short stories in 2011. His current projects include "The Harpist's" and "The Box of Endless Horizons" series, which are both published on his site.

Apart from writing, Wells' hobbies include running, reading, and painting, along with playing video games and watching sporting events. He has worked full-time in the retail industry, in his hometown, Warrenton, Missouri. He has also returned to college, where he is seeking his Associates and Bachelor's degrees in English-Literature, with the ultimate goal of attaining his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. He lives with his beautiful wife Barbara and their lovely children, Rebecca, Johnathan and Cassandra.

traditional premise, superior handling

When you see the premise, true successor to crown raised in normal surroundings by a loving family to allow him to grow up normally and alive, you may think, "Another one" and tend to pass it over. Don't! This is a page turner and the author who has been perfecting this story for almost 20 years promises us another, soon, I hope.

Loric leaves home shortly after his 16th birthday, thinking his father has betrayed him by not telling him the truth about his background about which he is still uncertain when he leaves. Fortunately, he is found by a relatively benevolent noble who does recognize him and insists Loric sign on as his squire. On his own talents, Loric finds out the truth about his father (very impressive, as you will find), becomes one of the youngest ever appointed Knight and sets out to find the artifacts which will allow the proper king to be returned to his people. Lots of good stuff in the telling.

Really good story

I read the prologue and was not sure I would like the story. However, as it went along I really enjoyed the book. I like the story line to this point and I am really interested in the characters. Like all e-pub their are minor errors in the writing but it was fairly well written. Sometimes it feels like the author skips some steps in how is characters develop. Mostly this is with the main character who seems to be really good at swordplay without much training but the lack of the training chapters also gets this story up to speed quickly. So, it is also a pro. If you are looking for a good read and good story this is it.

Very good read

I think this book was very entertaining. It was complicated enough to keep me interested, but also entertaining enough to keep me reading. I did find quite a number of mistakes, but that doesn't bother me at all as the quality and engagement of the story is the bottom line for me.

Well worth the value I paid for it. I read both the first and second volumes. I am an avid consumer of books esp. in the SciFi/Fantasy genre, and I would recommend this one to anyone who enjoys this type of read.

I am not related to the author nor do I even know him (and his co-author). This review is completely unsolicited.
