"This is the much-awaited edition of what has become a standard textbook. The 2 authors are prominent figures in the field of neuromuscular medicine and have been active in resident and fellow education for many years at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
[...] Although I have read the book at least twice, I often find myself referring to the chapters in [Section 6: Clinical-Electrophysiological Complications] while doing complicated studies. [...] The case examples at the end of the chapters are from the authors' experience. For a reader, the interactive discussion of the cases is very helpful in interpreting one's own cases.[...]
Some welcome new features of this edition are its color images and cross-sectional views of muscles in the EMG section. Moreover, the book is now accessible online online for quick reference. Readers can also listen to EMG sounds online instead of installing a CD, which was not always successful with the second edition.
This is a very well-organized and clearly written book. I would recommend this book to all residents and clinical neurophysiology fellows as well as anyone who interprets nerve conduction studies and performs EMGs."

An Excellent Update

The third edition of this book is a welcome update and includes colored pictures, access to full text & videos on any internet device through ExpertConsult.com and cross-sectional images that guide correct EMG needle placement. As are the previous two editions of the book, the text is easy to read and organized in a very practical fashion with great illustrations. It includes an excellent EMG/NCS atlas and in-depth discussion on the common neuromuscular/EMG cases. I have read the second edition of this book several times and am midway through with this new edition. Every time, I find myself learning from it more and more. This book is an indispensable tool for any one learning the basics of electromyography. I would highly recommend this book to neurology residents, neuromuscular & clinical neurophysiology fellows and practicing neurologists with interest in EMG.

This book is a must-have for anybody interested in learning about electrodiagnosis and neuromuscular disease. I have used it throughout my training, and I am sure I will continue to refer to this text as a staff.
The first several chapters provide a very clear, understandable explanation of the fundamentals of electrodiagnostic testing. The remainder of the text includes an excellent EMG/NCS atlas, and more detailed discussion of the clinical/electrophysiological features of specific syndromes (i.e. focal neuropathies, polyneuropathy, myopathy, etc).
The third edition of this book is a wonderful update. The EMG atlas now includes cross-sectional images of the muscles, which I have found to be very useful. I could not give this book a higher recommendation.

Thorough and yet concise. In-depth readings for when you're studying but supplemented with concise and quick-hitting charts/tables when you just want to quickly look something up (e.g. surface anatomy for EMG, root innervation, etc.). Has really helped organize my NCS/EMG studying.
