FIFTH GOSPEL - A Novel (Rosicrucian Quartet Book 4), by Adriana Koulias

From the acclaimed Author of TEMPLE OF THE GRAIL, THE SEAL and THE SIXTH KEY comes a singular achievement, a novel that transcends the four known gospels to unveil a secret kept hidden for centuries: the secret of the two Jesus Children.

It is 1244 and the Castle of Montségur is under siege. Trapped in the small fortress perched high in the Pyrenees Cathars and their supporters fight to avoid death on the pyre at the hands of the Catholic Church. Amidst the carnage and mayhem of war, a woman mysteriously appears to Cathar Perfect, Bertrand Marty – a woman with a tale to tell.

Two worlds collide, Judea and France, as she unfolds a story of shattering proportions, revealing secrets, both dangerous and devastating, which have been hidden for centuries in the annals of a Fifth gospel.

A story of courage and sacrifice, of faith beyond life, and of astounding secrets buried in time.

From the Author
AUTHOR INTERVIEW:Who is your target audience?AK: I write books that I would read myself and I like complex mysteries, multi layered thrillers that are textured; books that need your full attention. My goal is to engage the reader and to have him or her participate in the imaginative process. I also love playing around with language and usually try to tailor it to the era of my story. So, I guess this means that those who are after a fast read don't usually 'get' my books. I suppose I write for people who like milieu and atmosphere, who love language and historical mysteries tinged with the supernatural and religious. What do you hope your readers will get out of your books?AK: I hope that at the end of reading my books my readers will have questions about the world we live in, about history and what we consider truth and fiction, because they have been given a different perspective. Is there more coming?AK: I am writing the fifth book in the series right now, making my Quartet  a Quintet: Ghost Club and the Devil's Alphabet is a story set in London in 1888 around two real historical characters George Albert Smith (the father of UK Cinema) and Douglas Blackburn (who invented short hand). They were both entertainers on the Brighton stage and were involved with mesmerism and hypnotism. In my book they become entangled in a web of intrigue surrounding the death of a mutual friend. They stumble unwittingly on a strange club that appears to be involved in the Jack the Ripper Murders. I'm having a lot of fun writing it!What makes your books unique/outstanding?AK: They are a series but they can be read in any order because they are only loosely woven together and so each book can stand alone. They interconnect like puzzle pieces. What is your writing process?AK: I work a 10 hour day. I have a rough sketch of what I'm going to write, the themes and characters and the plot and then I just write. After that I do a lot of editing and I end up with a multitude of drafts which eventually I hone into a book. I guess my books are narrative driven and that means I'm often surprised to find out things about my characters that I didn't know! How do you cope with criticism?AK: Well, that is very hard because we all love our work to be loved, but in truth it is unavoidable. As writers we are creating concepts and imaginations that may not suit all readers. I guess if writing is to develop as an art then popularity can't always be the focus. Writers like F. Scott Fitzgerald and Herman Hesse, were ahead of their times and some of their books were unpopular until the readers really discovered their work - sometimes years later. This means that in some cases by the time a book becomes popular and is praised universally it is already outdated as an art form. But that isn't to say that popularity isn't great - who doesn't want money in the bank? When I first made it to top five in Pan Macmillan's Best Seller list I was over the moon. But for me I can't make it the main focus of my writing. I write because I love writing what I write. Could it be better? Always. Do I listen to advice and criticism? Yes, but I also remember that I have been frustrated by books in my youth that later in life have become life changing. My favourite quote is from Lessing's introduction to "The Golden Notebook": Remember that the book which bores you when you are twenty or thirty will open doors for you when you are forty or fifty." Books tend to find us when we need them and we all have different needs.

Ok, this made me think
By DanMiller
There are many questions that have been raised over time about the origins of the christian faith. I believe some of these questions are just because the original writings have been interpreted numerous times over the ages and the original message having been lost.

Also the loss of written material because it did not suit the powers to be in the religious hierarchy.

I found my self at the end of this book sitting there just thinking about the whole story that was told. Thinking, I can't believe a fictional book is making me think this deeply about what I believe. Then I read the acknowledgements at the end where it mentions that this book is based on what really is considered the 5th Gospel about floored me.

I just did a google on this, and found all kinds of references that do not tie to the title of this book. But I do remember that the author referenced specific lectures and documentation which I will look further into later.

My bottom line opinion on this book.
Well written, the story just kept on giving.
Made me think.
I believe it strengthened my belief.

If you are someone that does not believe, then you won't like this.
If you are someone that is so extreme in your beliefs, that anything that does not toe the sanctioned line is blasphemy. Don't bother, not your cup of tea.

But if you are someone that has questions, not losing faith, but questions. Then this book may be what you are looking for. I think this would describe me.

Adventure, romance, mystery, and thriller - Adriana Koulias weaves her magic once again!
By West
In The Fifth Gospel Adriana Koulias brings different timelines seamlessly together with great skill and takes on another journey back in time. We find ourselves in war-torn France in 1244 in the besieged castle of Montsegur. While the Catholics are pounding the walls, inside the heretical Cathar perfect meets a mysterious young woman with a story to tell. This story is set in a war-torn Palestine and it begins with the birth of two children both named Jesus (Yeshua).

Beautifully written this is an adventure story, a romance and a mystery thriller all in one.

Not only that but this book links beautifully with her last book THE SIXTH KEY. In fact they share an entire chapter! You will understand the enigmatic character Cros in THE SIXTH KEY better after reading this linking book.

It is fair to say that because of this book I will never see Christianity in the same way again. I highly recommend it!

Great book!
By Amazon Customer
While reading the 1st third of the book I found it lovely; I enjoyed the meeting with the characters from the New Testament stories, but deprived there of the living spark of daily life, which the author masterly managed to give them in her book. The 2nd Temple period, about which I have studied and read quite a bit because somehow I feel very close to it all, is also very lively and accurately (so far as we can know about it) well depicted.
When I got to the 2nd third of the book, things started to accelerate: I hardly could hold myself from going from one chapter to the next, so much was I anticipating the way the author would describe the events that are so well known to anyone who has dealt in one form or another with the themes of the beginnings of christianity. The last third was touching as well as exciting: the struggles between good and evil, the influences from higher and lower beings on human beings, the causes and effects of karma on human life - all those made this book a source of inspiration and insight.
I found also beautiful and very engaging the way the author brings down and pours into a literary form the esoteric knowledge brought to us by Rudolf Steiner.
